Bob: What does 'mellow' mean?
S'rîla Prabhupâda (to Syamasundara): How do they define mellow?
S'yâmasundara: Taste, pleasure.
Bob: OK.
S'rîla Prabhupâda: Pleasing taste. S- the Vedas say, raso vai sah. The exact translation of mellow is rasa... [A:] (Varnadi das): The translation "taste" is not enough. Rasa is not something material and therefore n- material specification of taste will be sufficient to give the right idea. Gopiparanadhana's advice was to use the term "transcendental taste". -> Nectar of Devotion, Ch. 20, p. 151: "The word rasa, used in the Bhakti-rasâmritasindhu, is understood by different persons differently because the exact English equivalent is very difficult to find. But as we have seen our spiritual master translate this word rasa into 'mellow,' we shall follow in his footsteps and also translate the word in that way."
